Survey Description

During the summer of 2000, 64 till samples were collected at a reconnaissance-scale from roadcuts or hand dug pits between New Liskeard and Marten River, northeastern Ontario.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 4086.  This report includes data for 9 other till samples collected in other surveys in the New Liskeard area.

Data Description:

Paper report and on CD-ROM.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.063 mm fraction by ICP-ES after LiBO2 and acid dissolution for major elements; by ICP-MS for rare earth elements; by ICP-ES after HCl-HNO 3-H 2O for base metals; by INAA for 34 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

None.

Other Analyses:

Heavy mineral concentrate for kimberlite indicator minerals (0.25-0.5 mm non-ferromagnetic fraction) and gold grain counts; carbonate (<0.063 mm fraction (LECO)); grain size; pebble lithologies (0.5-5 cm).

Sampling Procedure

At each site, a 10-12 kg till sample was collected for kimberlite analysis and a 2 kg till sample was collected for geochemical analysis.
