Survey Description


A total of 508 till samples as well as 508 marine, organic and gossan samples were collected during helicopter and foot traverses on the northern Melville Peninsula, Nunavut in 1985, 1986 and 1988.  Samples weighing 1.5 kg were collected from hand dug pits in mudboils at a depth of about 50 cm.  Care was taken to avoid obvious oxidation or organic layers.  The data are published in GSC Bulletin 484 and GSC Open Files 3636 and 3637.

In 2009, the samples were reanalyzed by INAA.  These data as well as the previously published data are available digitally in GSC Open File 6285.

Quantities Analysed:

<0.002 mm fraction by ICP-AES after aqua regia digestion for 33 elements.

Geochem Maps Available:

Proportional symbol maps showing dispersal of selected elements.

Other Analyses:

Grain-size (<2 mm), % carbonate of pebble, sand, silt/clay, and matrix fractions.
