Survey Description

During the summer of 1982, a helicopter supported lake sediment sampling survey was conducted by J. Descarreaux and Associates (NTS 23M/4, 5, 6, 23L/12, 13, 24D/4, 5, 12, 13 and 24P/1, 2,3, 6-11, 14-16, 24A/1, 2,3, 6-11, 14-16, 23I/9-11, 14-16).  The area covers 26000 km 2.  A total of 1901 samples were collected from lakes with surface area of km 2. At an average density of 1 sample per 12.0 km 2, it was sometimes necessary to sample bigger lakes with many sites of sampling.  Lakes were sampling along their central axis, generally in the center of that axis.

Samples were analysed for:

Element Dissolution Technique
Ag, Al, B, Ba, Be, Ca, Cd, Ce, Co, Cr, Cu, Eu, Fe, K, La, Li, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, Sc, Sm, Sr, Th, Ti, V, Y, Zn

HNO 3

ICP-ES
U   fluorimetry
Hg   flameless atomic absorption
pH, Loss on ignition (LOI)
As

The data are published in Open File DP 82-16, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.  Subsequently, samples were analysed for arsenic and the data are published in Open File DP 83-18, Department of Energy and Resources, 1983.

Data from this survey are part of a compilation of lake sediment data from Quebec and Labrador published in GSC Open File 8348 (geochemical atlas).
