Survey Description


Between 1978 and 1980, a glaciofluvial sediment (esker) sampling survey was conducted in the Abitibi region, Quebec.  The area covers 63000 km 2.  A total of 3000 samples were collected from horizons B and C, at an average density of 1 sample per 70 km 2 Samples were analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co (<177 microns fraction, atomic absorption).

The data are published in Open File MB-86-42, Department of Energy and Resources, 1986.  This survey is also part of a compilation DPV-608, published in 1979.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 31M (Ville-Marie), /N (Grand-Lac-Victoria) and 32C (Senneterre), /D (Rouyn-Noranda), /E (Joutel), /F (Lac Waswanipi). The region is located in the western part of the Abitibi area. It is bounded by latitudes 47° and 50° and longitudes 76° and 80°.
