Survey Description

Between 1971 and 1972, a basal till sampling survey was conducted in the Abitibi-Temiscaming area, Quebec.  The area covers 20400 km2.  A total of 7829 samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 2.6 km2 to 1 sample per 3.2 km2..  The fine particle fraction was collected for all samples (<80 mesh, density>2.85).  The heavy fraction was collected for 6370 samples (>80 mesh, density<2.85).

Samples were analysed for Cu, Ni, Zn (HNO3, atomic absorption).

The data are published in Open File DP-308, Department of Natural Resources, 1975.  A second publication (DP-348), published in 1976, describes metallic minerals analyses on the heavy fraction only (6370 samples).  The surveys are also part of a compilation DPV-608, published in 1979.

These surveys are part of a North-West Quebec geochemical compilation, DV-87-22, published in 1987.
