Survey Description


Between 1971 and 1973, a basal till and lake clay sediment sampling survey was conducted in the Abitibi-Temiscaming area, Quebec.  The area covers 20400 km2.  Samples were collected at an average density of 1 sample per 3.0 km2 :

The data are published in Open File DPV-830, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.  Raw data are published in Open File DPV-831.  This survey is part of a North-West Quebec geochemical compilation, DV-87-22, published in 1987.

Till samples were screened to obtain the >177 um fraction which was passed through bromoform to separate the minerals into a heavy fraction and a light fraction.  A total of 1175 samples (light fraction) were analysed for Cu, Pb, Zn, Ni, Co, Ag and Mn.  The data are published in Open File DP-832, Department of Energy and Resources, 1982.

In 1979, a total of 1950 samples (heavy fraction) were analysed for Rb, Sr, Y, Zr, Nb and Mo and data are published in Open File DPV-662.  In 1986, a total of 6600 samples (>177um) were analysed for visual identification and results are published in Open File MB 85-29.  Then in 1987, a total of 7594 samples (<177um) were analyzed for As, Au, Sb and W.  The data are published in Open File DP 87-22, Department of Energy and Resources, 1987.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

  • Covers NTS 31M/14 (Lac Barrière), /15 (Lac Roger), /16 (Lac Mourier), most of 32D (Rouyn-Noranda), 32C/3 (Lac Gueguen), /4 (Val-d'Or), /5 (Barraute), /6 (Senneterre), /11 (Rochebaucourt), /12 (Landrienne), /13 (Rivière Obalski), /14 (Despinassy) and 32E/3 (Villebois). The region is located in the Abitibi-Témiscaming area, Quebec. It is bounded by latitudes 47°45' and 49°15' and longitudes 77° and 79°30'.
