Survey Description

Between 1974 and 1980, B and C-horizon soils were collected across northern Saskatchewan during a large reconnaissance survey, covering an area of approximately 245,000 km 2.  The B-horizon soils were analysed but not published.  The C-horizon soils were not analysed.  The Quaternary geology report, including some grain size analyses for surficial sediment samples can be found in Saskatchewan Geological Survey Report 221.

The previously unpublished data for the B-horizon soil and data for newly analysed C-horizon soil from the Glennie, Kisseynew and Flin Flon domains is published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 5464/Saskatchewan Industry and Resources Open File 2007-13.

The previously unpublished data for the B-horizon soil and data for newly analysed C-horizon soil from the La Ronge and Rottenstone domains are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 5799/Saskatchewan Industry and Resources Open File 2008-1.

These data are also part of a compilation, Geological Survey of Canada Open File 7064.

Sampling Procedure

The normal sampling depth for surficial sediments was about 1 m.  At augerholes and exposures in road cuts and borrow pits, samples were collected at depths up to 36 m below the ground surface.
