Survey Description
In 1985, 44 till samples were collected 2 km northeast of Ruttan Mine, northern Manitoba. Arsenic values for these were almost an order of magnitude higher than regional background values. Therefore, in 1986, 22 more till samples were collected just north of those collected in 1985 to try to determine the source of the arsenic. The samples were processed for heavy minerals, including gold.
In 1987, an additional 42 till samples were collected along a 2 km strike length of the Vol fault to the east of the area sampled previously.
The data are published in Manitoba Geological Survey Data Repository Item DRI2020014 and are also part of two MGS compilation open files, OF2020-5 and OF2020-6.

The geographic extent of the survey is defined by the following polygons:

Covers part of NTS 64B/5 (Pemichigamau Lake) and a very small part of 64B/12 (Opachuanau Lake; 2 samples), the area east of the Ruttan Mine, northern Manitoba. It is located approximately 25 km east of the town of Leaf Rapids and 1 km south of Mine Road.
