Chittick analysis

Calcite and dolomite are determined using the Chittick gasometric apparatus.

The Chittick apparatus is designed primarily for determination of the volume of CO2 evolved from carbonates reacting with acid.

Contrasting differences in dissolution rates of calcite and dolomite in hydrochloric acid allow one to determine their percentage in finely ground sediments.
