Soil conductivity measurement

General Methodology:

Procedure:

  • The sample is air dried and passed through a 2 mm sieve
  • In a labelled 16 dram plastic vial, put a magnetic stirrer bar.  Weigh 20 g (± 0.03 g) of sample into the vial.
  • Add 40.0 ml of ultra pure water.  Set on magnetic stirrer.
  • Stir fast enough to create a vortex for at least 30 minutes.
  • Remove from stirrer.  Allow solution to reach equilibrium for a minimm of 4 hours, or overnight.
  • Measure conductivity.
