Quebec Geoscience Centre (QGC): mercury analysis (Hg-AFS),  strong acid digestion (H2SO4-HNO3)

General Methodology:

Atomic fluorescence spectroscopy analysis for mercury (Hg-AFS) was performed using a P.S. Analytical (Merlin Plus model) instrument. Before analysis, digestion of the < 63 μm fraction was completed with the help of a microwave system, CEM-MDS-2000. The partial (HCl 0.3M) and total (H2SO4 – HNO3) extractions were done in Teflon vessel bombs using certified ultra-pure products.  The precision (+/- 1.03 ppb) of the results was determined by repeat analysis of internal standards and NBS standards (National Bureau of Standards).
