Point Sources initiative - Rouyn-Noranda area, Quebec and Ontario, 1997

Project Description

Peat and feather moss samples were collected in 1997 in Ontario and Quebec, within a 100 km radius of the Horne smelter at Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec.  The purpose of the Point Sources initiative was to determine and compare the physical and geochemical record of particulate smelter emissions in surficial media and to evaluate the impact of anthropogenic loading on these natural systems.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 3882.  The samples were later analysed by ICP-AES and 24 samples from 4 sites were analyzed by ICP-MS.  These new data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Bulletin 584.
