Kaminak Lake, Nunavut till sampling surveys, 1997 and 1999

Project Description

In 1997 the Geological Survey of Canada initiated the five year Metals in the Environment Program (MITE) to address scientific issues related to natural and anthropogenic signatures of metals in the surface environment.  Till surveys were carried out in the Kaminak Lake area, Nunavut in 1997 and 1999 to study the cycling of mercury (Hg) in soils underlain by permafrost.  The work was part of a larger project designed to examine weathering processes and trace metal flux in the surficial environment at sites located in different ecozones and geological terrains across Canada.  The data are published in GSC Open File 4089.
