Southeastern New Brunswick Groundwater Project, 1991-1995

Project Description

The groundwater project in the Moncton and Fredericton areas was carried out with the following with the following objectives:

1. to establish a groundwater hydrogeochemical database to be used in health risk assessments for drinking water, location of good quality municipal groundwater supplies and impact studies of new industrial and residential building developments.

2. to apply groundwater geochemistry to geological mapping of lateral and vertical facies changes within Carboniferous clastic sediments underlying the region.

The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open Files 2912 (Moncton) and 3306 (Fredericton).

In the Moncton area, the sampling was also carried out to better delineate a large groundwater fluoride anomaly detected in an earlier reconnaissance survey (GSC Open File 340).
