Lithogeochemical surveys of acidic igneous rocks, Yukon and Northwest Territories, 1969-1971, 1973.

Project Description

During the summers of 1969-1971, samples of Cretaceous granitoid rocks were collected in Yukon Territory and adjacent parts of Northwest Territories.  The purpose of the study was to investigate the use of bedrock geochemistry as a tool for broad mineral reconnaissance and to establish the geochemical relationships of the plutonic rocks to the mineral occurrences associated with them.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 2479.

During the 1973 field season, samples of Proterozoic acid porphyry rocks were collected in the southern part of the Wopmay Belt, Northwest Territories.  The study was undertaken to assess the applicability of lithogeochemical techniques developed for use in the much younger granitoid terrane of the Canadian Cordillera to the more complex Proterozoic Shield terrane.  The data are published in Geological Survey of Canada Open File 2257.
