Kirkland Lake Initiatives Program (KLIP), 1979-1982

Project Description

The Kirkland Lake Initiatives Program is a multidisciplinary study to assist further growth of the region.  The Quaternary part of the program included mapping, sampling and studying subglacial and proglacial depositional environments.  It provides a framework for the utilization of the glacial drift in mineral exploration, land use planning, engineering and environmental studies.

The data are published in Ontario Geological Survey Open File Reports 5553 and synthesis reports OFR5506 and OFR5737.

Project Funding

The objective of KLIP is to stimulate exploration and mine development in the Kirkland Lake area by providing further information on the mineral potential of drift covered areas where bedrock is sparse or absent.

It is jointly funded by Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, Ontario Ministry of Northern Affairs under the Community and Rural Resource Development Agreement and the Federal Department of Regional Economic Expansion (DREE).
