Geochemical studies in glaciated terrain, Newfoundland, 1972

Project Description

In the summer of 1972, pilot geochemical exploration studies were carried out to test and evaluate the effectiveness of various regional and detailed techniques for base metal exploration within two distinct geological terrains in Newfoundland:

Area Geological Terrain Sample Types
Daniel’s Harbour zinc sulphide deposits (carbonate rocks)

lake sediment and water

stream sediment and water

basal till

soil (B + C horizons)

New Pond Bay south of Notre Dame Bay massive sulphide deposit (volcanic rocks)

lake sediment and water

stream sediment and water

till (upper and basal)

soil (B + C horizons)

The data are published in Newfoundland Department of Mines and Energy, Report 75-2.
