Crush, split and pulverize with mild steel (best for low contamination) of sample, and mechanical split to obtain a representative sample, a portion of which is further pulverized.
The entire sample is crushed to a nominal minus 10 mesh (1.7 mm), mechanically split (riffle) to obtain a representative sample and then pulverised to at least 95% minus 150 mesh (105 microns). Mild steel mills are used to avoid Cr or Ni contamination. Contamination with Fe (up to 0.2%) is possible.
