Chlorite refers to a group of micaceous phyllosilicate minerals, with the general formula A5-6T4Z18, where A = Al, Fe2+, Fe3+, Li, Mg, Mn, or Ni, while T = Al, Fe3+, Si, or a combination of them, and Z = O and/or OH.
Clinochlore, (Mg,Fe2+)5Al(AlSi3O10)(OH)8 is the most common member of the chlorite group. It forms a solid solution series with its Fe2+analogue chamosite.
