Spinel

The spinels are a group of minerals with the general formulation A2+B3+ 2O4.

Spinel is also used to identify the magnesium aluminium member of the spinel group. It has the formula MgAl2O4.  It forms solid solution series with:

  • Gahnite, ZnAl2O4 

  • Hercynite, Fe2+Al2O4 

  • Magnesiochromite, MgCr2O4
