Keyword Definition

[sed] A detrital mineral from a sedimentary rock, having a specific gravity higher than a standard (usually 2.85), and commonly forming as a minor constituent or accessory mineral of the rock (less than 1% in most sands); e.g. magnetite, ilmenite, zircon, rutile, kyanite, garnet, tourmaline, sphene, apatite, biotite.
