Bundle Description

NGR lake water analysis, Labrador 1978 survey, NTS 13N, Uranium by fission track, fluorine by ion selective electrode and pH by combination glass-calomel electrode, Barringer Magenta, Toronto.

These analytical data are published in GSC OF 558.

Samples 13N 781436 to 13N 781508 all appear to have bogus water analyses. The F data are almost all below detection.  One sample is at the detection limit of 20 ppm.  The pH data are all very close to  pH 7.  The U data are somewhat variable, but all low, < 0.150 ppb.  Some of these samples were collected on Aug 21st.  There was then a gap in collection until Aug 27th, when the final samples for the survey were collected.  13N 781508 was the last sample site to be visited.

It is speculated that:

  • the field crew ran out of water bottles during Aug 21st 

  • sample collection was halted, pending delivery of additional bottles
  • no additional bottles were forthcoming, so sample collection resumed on Aug 27th, with no water being collected 

  • bogus water samples were created at a later date, possibly using ordinary tap water
